Learning to read and write Gurmukhi is important in order to read Gurbani and connect with our history. Our aim is to teach the younger generation the value of our culture and history. We also want to encourage the youth to speak in Punjabi and be able to understand it so that they are able to resonate with our history. We will focus on teaching children the different aspects and levels of Gurmukhi in an engaging and fun way so that they can get a greater grasp on the content, which will create a solid foundation to increase and retain their knowledge of Gurmukhi.
Gatka
Guru Sahib has blessed us with Shastar Vidhiya and to learn how to defend ourselves and others in need. It is Hukam from Guru Sahib for each Sikh to learn Shastar Vidhiya. Initially students will be taught basic footwork and then will progress to hand to hand combat. Our goal is to work with each individual student and help them grow in their vidhiya at their own pace.
Kirtan & Tabla
Students will learn the fundamental building blocks of kirtan by starting with sargams and then moving on to shabads.
Students will learn the first parts of tabla and then the bols used in taals. Once students have mastered the bols, they will move on to learning basic taals.
The end goal is to help students build the confidence to do kirtan and/ or play tabla in Maharaji’s darbar with sadhsangat.
Sikh History
Learning our Sikh history and connection to our Guru’s teachings is a fundamental part of every Gursikh’s jeevan. Our goal is to guide and instil the lessons taught by our Guru’s and Shaheed. We want the students to be able to implement Gurmat values into their everyday lives. Students will be taught the fundamental topics in Sikh history and further build more concepts off the foundation. The delivery of our lesson plans will be in a fun, creative and engaging way to ensure that students take away the most from classes.
